What's your background, and what inspired you to become the owner of Latitude Homes BOP?
So I've been building for 12 years. I previously had a building company in Matamata. I built a home through Ross and Lee, who own Latitude Homes King Country and Matamata. And then I built a house for myself through them.
We always kept in touch and then Ross reached out last year in October 2024 and asked if I was still interested in a Latitude Homes franchise opportunity. I must have mentioned something when we worked together, and that sparked this venture together with Ross, Lee and myself.
Can you tell us a bit about the new Latitude Homes BOP construction office in Mount Maunganui?
Our new construction office is located in Mount Maunganui and we opened in July 2025. Our formal address is Shop 7, 314 Maunganui Road, which isn't technically correct. If you walk around the building, you'll find us at the corner of Totora Street and Rita Street, opposite the Quest Hotel.
Our opening hours are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday and we're also open on Saturday, 9 am until 12 pm. Appointments aren't needed, but it's a good idea to contact me before visiting, in case I'm at a site visit. Otherwise, visitors can pop in anytime.
There is plenty of parking in the area, and we also have a covered car park at the rear of the office. So if visitors call ahead for an appointment, I will move my car so you can be guaranteed a spot next to the office.
As for areas we service, we're Latitude Homes Bay of Plenty, and that covers a wide area including Waihi, Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, and includes Western Bay of Plenty, Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki down to Waihau Bay.
Tell me a bit more about Latitude Homes BOP. Do you offer pre-designed plans, custom builds, or both?
It's mostly about starting with pre-designed plans, but we can customise them however the client needs. And if you bring in your own plan, we can price a custom build option, so we cover all grounds.
How did you actually come to hear about Floorboards in Tauranga?
Ross and Lee knew Mitch at Floorboards Tauranga was good to work with, as he's always there when you need him. For the construction office, we wanted to show off a nicer flooring range that was hard-wearing, so Mitch advised the best flooring product for our project, which for us, was narrowed down to Quick-Step Impressive Laminate Flooring with a Sound Underlay.
Lee selected the colour Soft Oak Light from the Impressive range, so the floor tied in well with the office's colours and our branding. Floorboards offer and installation service, however we selected the floor as a DIY install option. Mitch came onsite and showed us where to start laying and the laying pattern. It was the small but important stuff to get started, and then, with my building skills stepping in, I was able to install the floor.
